Categorisation of Defects – Updates and additions effective 1st September 2022.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) guidance on the Categorisation of Defects has undergone a full review. The updated guidance document explains in detail how vehicle defects found by the DVSA during roadside inspections or vehicle tests are categorised and what action will be taken when / if a defect is found.
The updates and additions to the guide will come into effect on the 1st September 2022. The document has been released ahead of the changes to help operators understand and prepare for the changes.
The guidance explains in detail what action DVSA examiners and authorised constables can take when they find roadworthiness defects during:
- roadside vehicle inspections
- annual tests (MOTs)
